BIOGRAPHY: Oran grew up in a strict German family where there was a great deal of rivalry between the brothers. It was at school that Oran chose to shine as he had a keen mind and a quick, reliable memory. Oran completed elementary school in Andrew County, MO and at age 17 took and passed the examination for the Normal School in Kirksville. He attended there for two years, earning his grade school certificate and then he taught for two years. He returned to Normal School for two more years to earn his high school certificate. Oran then taught high school for two years and then attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, California for one year. From there he went to San Luis Obispo where he taught in the high school for three years, during which time he was made Vice Principal. It was here that he met Daisy Mabel Nelson and they were married on August 10, 1907. Daisy was an elementary school teacher. Oran taught school in San Luis Obispo three more years while Daisy stayed home. Theodore was born July 11, 1908. Oran then got a teaching position in Azusa, California and the family moved there. In Azusa, Oran decided to switch his profession so that he could spend more time outdoors, which he enjoyed very much. He became City Superintendent of Streets, Lights and Water. In about 1914, he traded his home in Azusa and some land that he owned in San Luis Obispo for some unseen raw land on Lake Tulare. The family traveled by horse-drawn wagon to the wilderness of Kings County. They now had little Charles Adrian, born October 3, 1911. They lived like pioneers in a dug-out home and it was here that little Rosalie was born on January 31, 1915, only to die so quickly, on May 5, 1915. Daisy's health never returned to normal after this experience and for the rest of her life, she suffered from phlebitis. She had to lie down and elevate her legs during a part of each day. Oran did build a house for his family, but in a few years, they moved again, this time to Chowchilla, where Oran built a house and farmed. Then they moved to Modesto where Oran worked in a Funeral Home as Assistant Undertaker. They lived there seven years. Finally, they moved to Palo Alto where Oran opened the Seeing Eye Photography Studio in his rented home at 742 Bryant Street. They also took in boarders. They lived there until the 1950's when they moved to a small rented cottage. Then they moved to a rented house in San Jose, and finally moved in with their son Charles in Salinas, where Oran passed away in 1961. Daisy stayed with Charles until she was unable to get around anymore and then was placed in a nursing home in San Jose, where she passed away in 1965.
